In Brodie’s Corner: Grant Steps into the Cage for EOS
This March, Grant Mortimore is taking on an incredible challenge for EOS. On 20 March he’ll step into the cage at Ultra MMA Plymouth, raising money and awareness for families living with eczema.
Grant is doing it for someone very special: his son, Brodie.
Brodie’s eczema began before he was one year old and has affected almost every part of his daily life. He lives with frequent flare-ups that cause pain, discomfort and extreme tiredness.
“My eczema hurts, when will it go away?”
During difficult flares, Brodie can be awake for most of the night, sometimes getting only three or four hours of sleep. The lack of rest makes it harder for him to regulate his emotions and cope during the day.
Eczema can also limit some of the activities Brodie is able to take part in. Certain sports or messy play can worsen his skin, and frequent infections and eye flare-ups can leave his eyes swollen and painful. During severe flares his skin can become so sore that even walking comfortably or managing stairs can be difficult.
For Grant and his family, navigating eczema hasn’t always been easy.
“From a parent’s perspective, the journey has often felt overwhelming and at times isolating,” he explains. “We have felt lost when seeking help through GPs, often feeling that Brodie’s condition was not fully understood and that treatment focused mainly on creams and steroids while his symptoms continued to impact his daily life.”

Despite these challenges, Brodie shows incredible resilience. His school has been very supportive and even used the EOS website and resources to help create his Individual Healthcare Plan (IHP), ensuring staff understand his needs and can support him during the school day.
Seeing the impact eczema has on Brodie’s life is what inspired Grant to take on this challenge. By stepping into the cage at Ultra MMA Plymouth, he hopes to raise awareness and vital funds so EOS can continue supporting families like theirs.
So far, Grant has raised over £700, an amazing achievement that will help more children and young people living with eczema access the support they need.
At EOS, we’re incredibly grateful to Grant for such a bold challenge and for sharing Brodie’s story. Fundraisers like him help ensure families managing eczema never have to feel alone.
