Finn is taking part in Eczema Outreach Support’s Move 5 fundraising challenge. He will cycle 5km in October and has already raised £160 with his good deed.

The 3-year-old from Whitley Bay has battled with eczema since he was just ten weeks old and tried countless creams, steroids and antibiotics. His sleep is affected by the pain and he was even hospitalised for two days due to a severe infection earlier this year. The tot needed IV antibiotics after getting an infection in his broken skin.

Mum Charlotte said having painful eczema is all Finn has ever known.

She said: “Eczema consumes our days, I am constantly applying cream or worrying about flares. Some days he needs cream applied every hour of the day and through the night. It is relentless.

“Finn has severe eczema and his face is one of the worse affected areas, sometimes his face is very inflamed and bleeding. Changes in weather seem to affect him too so this week with it getting cooler he has had an awful flare.”

Finn just started nursery so Charlotte was desperately seeking advice on how to manage the transition.
“I found Eczema Outreach Support online and used their school resources to make the transition to nursery as smooth as possible. I got a lot of great advice from them and the charity can come to Finn’s school to do a workshop with his classmates to educate them on eczema.

“It can be quite lonely dealing with eczema when you don’t know anyone else going through a similar experience. I would tell people that Finn struggles with eczema and be told this cream or this bubble bath can cure it which is frustrating.

“We have tried everything and while I would love there to be a miracle cure, there isn’t one.”

Finn will cycle 5km round Whitley Bay during Move 5 from October 1-10 to raise money for Eczema Outreach Support.

Charlotte added: “We really benefited from the support of the charity and wanted to give back.”

Eczema Outreach Support is free to join and offers support and advice for children and young people with eczema and their carers. They host virtual and in person events, webinars with dermatologists and carry out school workshops to help peers become a better friend to someone with eczema.

CEO of Eczema Outreach Support, Suzi Holland said the charity was grateful for Finn and the other families taking part in Move 5.

“A huge thank you to Finn for putting in the effort and taking part in Move 5. We are so grateful for our members and supporters that fundraise for EOS.

“Funding is becoming increasingly difficult to secure and we rely on fundraisers more and more so we can continue to help over 4000 families across the UK.”
